Tips for making the most of parent teacher meetings

Whether you’re an NQT or an experienced teacher, the idea of 25-30 Parent Teacher Meetings in one week can be daunting! Here are some practical tips from Teacher author, Aoife Doyle, to help ensure successful parent teacher meetings.

Gather some pupil self assessments

You can begin your preparation for your PTMs as early as four or five weeks before they begin. Start gathering assessment data; standardised test results, work samples and self-assessment data from the pupils.

I find it helpful to use templates for pupil self assessment.

Here is an example of a template I use with older pupils. You could adapt something similar for your class and focus areas.
