Christmas art ideas for younger children

Christmas Symmetry

This art lesson works for lots of Christmas items for example, Christmas trees, Santa, Snow globes, etc. They can discuss their ideas and a list of objects with symmetry can be listed.

You will need: Paint, paper, brushes or something to print with.

An oldie but a goodie lesson, very simple and straight forward. The kids split their page in two with a fold prior to painting one half of their desired design. Once happy and finished with one side and before the paint dries, they re-fold over their original line to form the symmetrical image.

For younger classes, the idea of symmetry might need to be explored on a few practice pieces first before the Christmas piece is explored and created.

Here is a series of Christmas Symmetry printables you can also download and use to explore the idea of symmetry in December.
