4. Student led questioning

WHY:
There is a natural pressure to focus on transferring content and knowledge to learners as fast as possible but the students may lose engagement if they are unclear on the value or intent of the content presented. For some students, hearing ideas and concepts presented by their classmates can help bring them back into a topic that they may have found confusing or unfamiliar in its original presentation.

TRY:
You can involve the students in the process of questioning by having them regularly suggest a question for the class that would help check understanding.  Their questions are also revealing of their current thinking and can provide useful insights and direction to the teacher.

Teachers' Corner
