Te nó fuar
This is a really fun fast paced game that gets all children engaged and is a versatile game for unconsciously teaching prepositions and seomra ranga vocabulary.
Begin by choosing a few of your foclóir cards to place around the room. The cards can be as simple as a sticky note. I like using the Abair Liom vocabulary cards for this.
All children place their heads down and I choose 3 to 5 children to place the 5 chosen cards. Some kids might need reminding that the cards still need to be visible and not completely hidden!
When the 5 cards are in their positions, all children can then scan the room for their positions. Choose 2-3 children to go head-to-head to find a certain píosa foclóra.
It would go a little something like this:
Múinteoir: Téigí agus faighigí piongain (I say it. The whole class say it. The 2-3 children say it.)
Páistí: (ag tabhairt treoracha, mar shampla:), te, te, te, fuar, fuar
Is féidir le páistí aonarach treoracha éagsúla a thabhairt; Tá sé in aice le… Tá sé faoin…
For older classes, this could be further developed with ‘Níl sé in aice an…. Ach féachaigí ar an…’ These phrases need to be pre-taught to the children. However, once they are taught, watch the children use their taught Gaeilge and less Béarla during lessons.
