3. Name Labels
It can be hard to remember 20 different names. You can have some sticky name labels made ready for when the kids come in that first morning. They’ll more than likely fall off by yard time but it’ll help you connect.
You could also have labels made up for their chairs or tables too. Having a seating plan on hand will help guide the children to their seats.
With a bit of preparation, you can make labels into an icebreaker activity. You can find templates online or make you own with apps like Canva (Note: If you are an educator you can get access to Canva Professional once you supply your school credentials)
You can also make a foldable tent from card or thick paper that can have some helpful classroom notes on the back and space for the children to add words or pictures – pets, favourite places or things or favourite things to do. You can use these personal facts to help to open conversations with students who may be hesitant in talking in a new class and to a new adult.
Here is a label template you can print or edit (in Microsoft Word) or print as PDF. The children could fill it in as their first activity in their new class and everyone will have something to talk about!
